A DBS certificate is a record of ‘Positive’ information (or disclosure). What information is included on a certificate depends on the level of check. They can include any spent or unspent convictions or any non-conviction information from the Police National Computer, local police records and for particular roles, information stored on the list of people banned from working with children and vulnerable adults.
For further information please visit Safety Net DBS Checking.
A DBS certificate is one of the recruitment tools available to organisations looking to engage paid workers or volunteers to help judge suitability for the role.
Safeguards and guidelines have been introduced to ensure that conviction information is not misused and that ex-offenders are treated fairly. Ex-offenders will retain the protection afforded by the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974.
