Advocacy Services West Sussex
Impact supports Self Advocacy groups with their management and fundraising. The groups come together to support one another and campaign around common issues for example leisure or health services and local transport.
The groups are for and run by people with learning disabilities or autistic spectrum conditions. Each group manages its own funds and elects a chair, vice chair and treasurer. Meeting agendas are set by the individual group who then run the meetings.
In addition to practical matters, the groups provide a social opportunity for their members and help to build friendships, peer support and confidence through sharing of experiences and knowledge.
The ASC group have recently set up the Aspies Training Group who will run sessions on Living with Asperger’s which will broaden people’s knowledge and understanding of Asperger’s.
