Save the date: 13th November 2018 – Conference on building on innovation and resilience

15th May 2018

Back in 1978 a conference was held at University of Sussex to see how local authorities, voluntary organisations and churches could work better together for the benefit of people living in Sussex who most needed support to enable them to live a healthy and fulfilling life, and was spearheaded by Peter Bunker OBE and the Duke of Richmond. At the time, it was thought to be ‘a splendid idea but one that would not work, as the respective bodies would not trust one another!’ Our organisation, Impact Initiatives, was conceived as a result of this conference taking place.

To celebrate 40 years of working with local authorities and health bodies to support people to improve and maintain their health and wellbeing, we are now planning a similar conference relevant to the present day. The Vice Chancellor of University of Sussex and the University’s Communications and External Affairs team are now working with us on developing the conference, with directors from Sussex statutory bodies (including Public Health) also involved. The keynote speaker will be Duncan Selbie, CEO of Public Health England.

The conference will take place on November 13th 2018 at approximately 9.15am – 4pm at the University of Sussex’s Conference Centre, with the aim of facilitating a discussion and subsequently agreeing further actions on how we should proceed to build on existing innovation and strategies which enable people to support themselves and others to become healthier, stronger and more resilient individuals and communities. Other speakers will be confirmed in the next few weeks.

Delegates attending will be decision makers and front-line service delivery staff from statutory and voluntary sector organisations, businesses, academics and students from across Sussex. There will be speakers who are representatives of both national and local bodies, in addition to speakers who have experience of developing and implementing innovation which helps build healthier, stronger and more resilient people and communities.

More details and information on how to book will be circulated soon, but for now please save the date in your diaries.
