26th September to 7th October 2016
The Brighton & Hove Older People’s Festival has grown from the city’s previous years’ celebrations of International Older People’s Day, which saw events run throughout one week (click here to see what we did last year). Building on the success of this, we decided to go bigger and better for 2016, and so the idea of giving older people a festival of their very own was brought together. The festival brings an eclectic range of events and celebrations which reach across the city. These are in line with the themes set by the United Nations; Full of Life; full of adventure, full of memories, full of relaxation, full of industry, full of it, and reflect the nature of our city and its older residents. The festival has been enabled by £10,000 from Public Health at Brighton & Hove City Council, click here to read more about this.
We have worked with some amazing people to bring the festival together; some old friends & associates and some new, including the amazing photographer Maria Scard and the marvellous people she has photographed. We must also mention the creative genius of Ruth Watson and the Osomi team for all our fabulous festival branding and programme design. In keeping with the spirit of the Brighton & Hove business community, many have given their time & resources freely. Without them we would not have had such a brilliantly well-presented and extensive selection of events. We’ve strived to include something for everyone in the programme and believe we have succeeded in our mission, and hope we have taken a big step forward in Brighton & Hove’s ambition to become an ‘Age-friendly City’. We hope this is the first of many future Older People’s Festivals and that people get the opportunity to try something and meet someone new.
Above all, we hope everyone has a fantastically good time.
The Festival will be widely promoted on our Social Media, so please like and follow us on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. The Festival Programme will be distributed from the beginning of September so do look out for it around the city.
