BOPP is now The Hop50+
Brunswick Older People’s Project (Bopp), also known as St John’s, has been given a new name and it will now be known as The Hop 50+. The name change has come as a result of a re-branding exercise for Impact when a focus group, including regular Bopp visitors and staff, decided that the project needed to better reflect what it does. The Hop50+ was decided upon because it is for people in Brighton & Hove who are aged 50+. ‘The Hop’ because the emphasis is very much on keeping active, fit and healthy over the age of 50+. The Hop50+ will still be based at St John’s Centre on Palmeira Square. It will also still boast a café, a range of classes, a beauty room, health promotions, outreach services and minibus trips from the centre. Caroline Ridley, CEO of Impact Initiatives, said: “For many people reaching 50 gives you a new lease of life. The kids have long left home and suddenly you find you have a bit more time to do the things that you enjoy like trips out, classes, or something completely different. Open Day at St John’s Centre & Cafe
On Saturday 27th June, 10am-4pm, we will be holding an Open Day at St John’s Centre and Café in Palmeria Square, Hove. Come along and get involved in our 30 minute taster sessions, where you can try a number of the activities that regularly take place at the centre, including boccia, chair yoga, pottery painting, indoor kurling and lots more. A buffet lunch will be available in the café for just £6, which includes a naughty but nice pudding! Come and talk to us about the weekly trips that we organise in our minibus – from Newhaven Fort to country pubs and beautiful churches, there are so many places we like to visit, so why not join us next time? Dementia Friends Information Session at The Larches Cafe
On Friday 12th June, The Larches Cafe, Coldean, will be hosting a dementia information morning from 10.30-11.30am. The session will be led by Caroline Carter from Dementia Friends, with endorsement from The Alzheimers Society. Anybody can attend the session to gain a better understanding of what dementia is and how it can affect a person’s behaviour and the way that they feel, along with practical tips on how you can support somebody who is living with dementia.
